Cass County GOP Precinct Caucuses a Great Success!

posted Feb 9, 2012, 1:09 PM by Cass County Republicans   [ updated Jun 15, 2017, 1:10 AM ]

What an awesome caucus night we had! We more than tripled the attendance of the 2010 caucus with a total of 374 compared to 114. There were many new people who had never attended a precinct caucus before along with a reinvigorated group of Party regulars. It was so great to have all 7 locations in Cass County well attended and some of them with record turnouts.

I want to express my sincerest gratitude to Paul Ritter our caucus coordinator for doing all the heavy lifting by making all the arrangements for locations and training our conveners. He did a great job as always and I rely heavily on his knowledge and experience. I also want to extend a huge thank you to the other 6 caucus conveners; Nancy Evans, George Collins, Roger Reynolds, Ted Seep, Tom Lund and Myrna Howes. I’ve heard nothing but praise for the great job they did at each location.

Now for the results of our Presidential Straw Poll;

Rick Santorum was the big winner with 243 votes. Ron Paul came in second with 56 followed by Mitt Romney with 45 and Newt Gingrich came in last with 30 votes.

I can’t hide my excitement for the Santorum win. The reason I got involved with the Republican Party was to do what I can to get true Republicans elected to represent us. I firmly believe that Senator Santorum is the one candidate left in the final four seeking the GOP nomination who most closely represents the Republican Party values and platform. His decisive wins in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado last night tells me that I’m not alone in my belief. The conservative voices of the GOP spoke loud and clear that we will be the ones who decide who are Presidential nominee will be.

What a great start to our 2012 election year. The excitement and enthusiasm of our newly elected delegates and alternates is palpable. I am so encouraged that everyone is ready to do battle with the Democrats and build on our successes of 2010. With hard work and determination we can accomplish anything!

I look forward to a great turnout at our County Convention to be held on March 3rd, 1:00 PM at the Hackensack Community Center. We’re sure to have our District 4 Senator John Carlson along with our District 4B Representative Larry Howes. By then we will have the new redistricting lines finalized and be able to move forward with the candidate endorsement process. We will also elect delegates and alternates to represent Cass County at the Congressional District and State Conventions.

Thanks again to everyone who participated in an exciting and successful caucus night.
